Royal Dresses

Royal Dresses is located at 146-147 in the Raopura area. It is a very old part of town, so the building itself has a lot of character. The walls are a bit uneven. We have two units that we’ve combined to make more room for all the dresses we keep on the racks. Most of the day is spent helping customers find the right size. We also fix the hangers that always seem to get tangled together. The street dust gets on the windows quickly. They always look a bit grey. My brother works in the back storage area. I stay out front to talk to the people. Our billing counter is an old wooden piece that has been here since we first started. During school holidays, you might see the kids playing in the corner. We don't have a computer. Everything is written by hand in a big blue ledger book. The ceiling fan clicks constantly, but it’s necessary because it gets very hot in Raopura. Sometimes we just stand at the door to watch the people go by or wait for the rain to stop. We don't do much advertising. Most people just know where we are because they’ve been coming here for years. It’s a simple shop and we work hard to keep it running. By the time we close at night, our feet are usually pretty tired from all the standing. But that’s just how it goes.
