Rangila Hair Salon

Rangila Hair Salon is tucked into Gurunanak Nagar at shop number thirteen. If you know the Old Chani Road area in Nizampura, you probably pass us a lot. We are quite close to Chani Jakat Naka. It’s a lively spot in Vadodara. The shop is simple. We don't have any of those big fancy signs or glowing lights. Just the name on the front and some chairs inside. I’ve spent a lot of years standing on this floor. My back hurts sometimes by the end of the shift, but that’s how it goes. People from the nagar come in after they finish their chores. We talk about the local news or the weather while I trim their hair. It’s dusty out on the road, so we are always wiping down the glass. The 390002 area has changed, but the salon stays mostly the same. I use the same shears I’ve had for a long time. They work well. We don't try to be anything we aren't. It’s just a place to get your hair fixed and move on with your day. Sometimes a customer brings a newspaper and leaves it behind for the next guy. We have a small bench for people waiting. It’s usually full on the weekends. I like the routine of it all. Opening up, setting out the towels, and seeing who comes in first. It is a regular life here on Old Chani Road and we like the people.
