Rana Ahamad Jahu

Living and working near the Jumma Masjid Road gives this place a specific kind of rhythm. You hear the calls throughout the day, and it helps you keep track of time without looking at a clock. Rana Ahamad Jahu is just the name on the papers, really. We operate out of this spot on O P H Road in Savli. It’s a busy intersection, especially on Fridays. The shop itself is small. We have some wooden shelves that my father put up years ago. They are a bit crooked now, but they hold everything we need. I spend most of my time right here behind the counter. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and we have to move the stock away from the front door. Savli is a place where everyone knows your face if you stay long enough. I don't see the point in having a fancy website or big posters. If you need something, you just come down to O P H Road and find us. We keep things simple. There’s a small stool for visitors to sit on, but most people just stand and talk for a minute before going on their way. It gets a bit dark in the back of the room, so we use a couple of extra lamps. It's just a regular local business. We do what we can and try to be fair with everyone who walks through the door.
