Om Provision Store

If you head down to Alembic Road, you will find Om Provision Store right at the corner of 1st Main Adi Kabir Ashram Road in Mothi Nagar. It’s a busy spot where everyone seems to be in a rush. I spend most of my morning weighing out grains and packing up bags for the local families. The shelves go all the way to the ceiling and I have to use a small wooden ladder to reach the top rows. It’s a bit of a workout every day. The smell of fresh flour and different spices fills the air as soon as I open the door. Mothi Nagar has a lot of houses nearby, so we get a lot of regulars who come in for their daily needs. The counter is made of heavy wood and has been here since I started. I like the sound of the doorbell when someone walks in. Sometimes the delivery trucks arrive late and I have to stack crates in the middle of the aisle until I can find space. It gets a bit cramped, but we manage. My hands are usually covered in a bit of dust from the rice bags. I have a small radio that plays songs from the old days while I work. Alembic Road can be quite noisy with all the traffic, but inside the store, it feels like its own little world. We don’t have fancy displays, just the food people need for their dinner.
