We are located right here in Sector 19, Subhanpura. The room is usually full of students and the sound of chalk on the board. Vadodara gets really hot in the afternoons, so the fans are always spinning fast. I’ve been teaching here for quite some time now. It’s a simple setup with wooden benches and some old posters on the walls. Students come in after school, looking tired but they have to get through their lessons anyway. We focus on the books and the exams that are coming up next month. There’s always someone asking a question while someone else is trying to take a nap at the back. Parents drop by in the evenings to ask about grades. I usually have a cup of tea between classes to keep my voice going. It’s not a quiet place, especially when the bell rings and everyone tries to leave at once. We don’t use any fancy technology, just notebooks and practice papers. Sometimes the street noise from outside is distracting, but you get used to it. Dealing with teenagers isn’t always easy, but it’s what we do every day. The office is small and crowded with stacks of corrected papers. We just try to get through the syllabus before the finals start. It’s a lot of repetition and making sure everyone understands the basics before moving on. It is just a normal place for kids to study.
