Deep Maya

Our place is in Vadodara at Govindwadi 28. It is a small establishment that blends into the rest of the street. If you aren't looking for the number twenty-eight you might walk right past us. Inside, the space is filled with all sorts of items that we have collected over time. It’s a bit cluttered but we know exactly where everything is kept. The Govindwadi neighborhood is quite lively with people moving about and kids playing nearby. We spend a lot of our time sitting near the entrance so we can greet whoever comes in. The floor is made of old tiles that have some chips in them. We don't have air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that move the air around. Some days it feels like time stands still here while we wait for the afternoon heat to pass. We don't use a computer for everything; a lot of our notes are still kept in a physical diary with a blue cover. It’s a very traditional way of doing things but it has worked for us so far. We know the regular customers by name and often end up talking about their families for a while. There is no rush here and we don't try to pressure anyone. We just open the doors in the morning and see what the day brings. It is a humble little spot and we are quite content with how things are.
