Portable Tools Corporation

Portable Tools Corporation is based on the first floor of Kala Chambers, right by Baranpura Naka and the GEB Substation. You have to walk up the stairs to find us, which can be a bit of a workout when we’re carrying heavy drill sets. The shop is usually a bit of a mess with tools being taken apart or put back together. We’ve got boxes stacked everywhere, and the smell of machine oil is pretty constant. Most of the time, we’re busy testing out motors or explaining how a specific saw works to a customer. It’s loud because of the testing, but that’s just part of the environment here. Being near the substation is handy because everyone knows where that is. We don't have a big staff, just a few people who really know how these machines are supposed to run. Sometimes we get a bit backed up with repairs, especially when everyone’s equipment seems to break at the same time. The first floor can get pretty warm in the afternoons, so we keep the fans going at full speed. We aren’t interested in being a big fancy outlet; we just want to make sure the tools we sell or fix actually do the job. People come to us because we’ve been in Baranpura Naka for a long time and we don't try to sell them stuff they don't need. It’s just practical work for people who build things every single day.
