Chiknajati Farmer Producer Company Limited operates out of Rajnish Kumar’s place over in the Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. The name Chikna Jati is well known around here, and we take pride in being part of this local landscape. We spend most of our time out in the sun, so our office is really more of a storage room and a place to get out of the rain. Farming in Kheri has its own set of problems, like when the roads get blocked or the pests decide to move in on the crops. We don't have a marketing team or a fancy website. We just have Rajnish and a few dedicated people who know how to handle a plow and a harvest. Conversations here are usually about the cost of urea or how the local market is doing this week. It’s not always easy, and sometimes we feel like we’re just fighting against the weather, but we keep at it. There’s a lot of mud on our boots most days, and the work never really stops, even when the sun goes down. We are just a group of farmers who decided that standing together was better than trying to survive alone. It’s honest work, even if it’s exhausting and the profits are sometimes thin. We just keep moving forward, one season at a time, right here in Shiv Narayanchikna Jati, hoping the harvest is kind to us.
