Sri Durga Enterprises

Sri Durga Enterprises is located at 526 Main Road, right on the ground floor where it’s easy for anyone to just walk in. Being on the main road means there is a lot of noise from the buses and bikes, so we often have to speak a bit louder than usual. The shop doesn't have much of a lobby; you just step off the pavement and you are right in the middle of everything. I like having the ground floor spot because it makes moving heavy boxes much easier than if we were upstairs. We have shelves lining every wall from the floor to the ceiling. I use a small step ladder to reach the stuff at the top, though my knees aren't as happy about that as they used to be. The lighting inside is just a few long tubes that flicker for a second when you first turn them on. I spend most of my time behind the main counter, which is usually covered in receipts and small scraps of paper where I’ve scribbled notes. We don't bother with fancy uniforms or anything like that. I just wear my regular clothes and a pair of comfortable sandals because I’m on my feet most of the day. It gets a bit crowded when three or four people are inside at once, but we manage to sort everyone out. Main Road is always changing, but our little corner feels pretty much the same day after day. It's a living, and it keeps us occupied until it's time to lock up.
