Hotel Jai Maa Inn

We are located on Kashmir Road, which is the main way people go when they are heading up for the Vaishnodevi pilgrimage. Because of that, Hotel Jai Maa Inn sees a lot of tired travelers. People come in with their walking sticks and big bags, looking like they really need a sit-down. The air is a bit cooler here than in the plains, which is nice. Our building is right on the side of the road, so it’s easy to spot when you are coming in. We keep things very simple. The rooms have what you need to rest your legs after the long walk up the hill. I spend a lot of time making sure there is plenty of hot water because that is what everyone asks for the moment they arrive. We don't have any fancy room service with silver trays, just a kitchen that makes tea and some basic food when people are hungry. The floors are tiled to make them easier to wash because of all the mud people bring in from the mountain paths. It’s a busy life during the peak season, and sometimes we hardly get any sleep ourselves. But it’s good to see the pilgrims resting before they continue their journey. We just keep the place open and the lights on, day and night, for whoever needs a bed after a long day of walking.
