We are based out of Lehnu, Tikri, which is a small part of Udhampur. This whole thing started because a few of us farmers in the village felt it was better to do things as a group rather than trying to figure everything out on our own. Surinder Kumar’s place is where we mostly meet up to talk about the crops and what needs doing next. Life here in Jammu and Kashmir is mostly about the land and the weather anyway. We don't have a big fancy office or anything like that. It is just a simple setup where we handle the paperwork and keep track of what the members are growing. Sometimes the roads are a bit rough and getting things moved takes longer than we want, but that is just how it is living in this part of Udhampur. We have folks from all around the local area involved now. It is mostly about getting the seeds sorted and making sure the harvest actually goes somewhere useful. We are not experts in marketing or anything, we just know how to farm and how to help each other when the season gets busy. Most days you will find us just chatting about the rain or the prices at the local market. It’s a lot of work, but having Devi Pindi Farmer Producer Company Limited makes it feel a bit more organized for everyone involved in the village and the hills nearby.
