Saraswat Hing

Our shop, Saraswat Hing, is located on Kalka Mata Road in Maharshi Colony. If you’re heading toward the Kalka Mata Temple in Pahada, you’ve probably walked right past us. The smell of hing is pretty strong, so you usually notice it before you even see the sign. We’ve been in this spot for a long time, and it’s mostly a family-run operation. The space isn’t very big, just a main room for processing and some storage in the back for the raw resin. We don’t use any fancy machinery or high-tech systems. Most of the work is done by hand, sorting through the blocks and getting the powder just right. It’s a messy job and our clothes always end up smelling like spices at the end of the day. We don’t spend money on big ads or glossy brochures. We think if the quality is okay, people will keep coming back like they always have. The neighborhood is fairly quiet except when there’s a festival at the temple. Then the whole road gets blocked up with people and stalls. We just keep the doors open and keep working through it. It’s a simple life and a simple business. We aren't trying to change the world, just trying to provide a good product to the local kitchens and shops around Udaipur. It’s just us and our jars of hing, day in and day out.
