Sachdev Papad Bhandar

Sachdev Papad Bhandar is situated over at Delhi Gate in the Moti Market area, specifically near Meera Pada on Nehru Bazar 3. If you come by this way, you will likely smell the spices before you even see the shop. We make and sell papads, which is a lot more work than people think. My hands usually smell like black pepper and cumin by the end of the day. We have big racks where the papads are laid out to dry. You have to keep a close eye on them. If the air is too damp, they don't crisp up right, and if it's too windy, they get covered in dust. The shop is quite small and most of the space is taken up by the finished stacks of papads wrapped in plastic. We also have some pickles in big jars sitting on the floor. The lids are heavy and the oil sometimes spills a bit when we are scooping them out. Customers come in and want to taste everything, so we keep a few broken pieces aside for them. The market outside is always loud with scooters honking, but we just focus on the weighing scale. We have been in this spot for a long time, and the walls have turned a bit yellow from all the years of spice dust. It is just a small family thing we do here in the market.
