Our place is situated on the road that goes from Delhi Gate toward the Alka Hotel, very close to the bus stand. Being so close to the buses means there is always a lot of smoke and shouting outside our doors. It is a very busy part of town. We handle a lot of cement bags every day, so the floor is always covered in a thin layer of gray powder. It’s hard work on the back, but it’s what we do. We don't have fancy office chairs or air conditioning; we just have a desk, some stools, and the inventory stacked high. The traffic on this road can be a real mess, especially when the buses are pulling in and out constantly. We’ve been at this spot for a while now, so we know most of the other shopkeepers around here. When a delivery comes, we have to move fast to get the truck unloaded before it blocks the whole street. It’s a constant cycle of loading and unloading. We keep the doors open most of the day to let some air in, even if it brings in the noise. Most of our day is spent talking to drivers and making sure the numbers match up on our receipts. It’s not the quietest job, but it keeps us busy from morning until we lock up at night. We just try to keep things moving along without too much trouble.
