Prince Masale is out in Village Salumber, which is part of Udaipur. We are situated near Suraj Cole, so that is how most people find us. The air around our place usually smells like cumin or dried chilies. It’s a very strong scent that stays on your clothes even after you go home. We spend a lot of time sorting through whole spices and getting them ready. Our equipment is a bit older and makes a lot of noise when it is running. The village life is slow, but we stay busy with our spice work. We have big sacks of raw ingredients stacked up against the walls. We don't have any fancy marketing people or a big office. It is just us in the shed working with the masale. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait for it to come back before we can finish the grinding. We use simple plastic bags for packing. The labels are basic too. We don't see a reason to make it complicated. People from the nearby villages know where we are. We might have some dust on our hands from the powders, but that is just part of the job. It’s a hard day’s work every day. We close up when it starts to get dark and head home. That is pretty much what Prince Masale is about. It's honest work and it keeps us going throughout the whole year here.
