Om Masala Bhandar

Om Masala Bhandar is located at Dhanmandi, specifically at Teej Ka Chowk, Gadia Devera 88. This is the heart of the old city and it is always full of life. We have been here for years, selling all sorts of spices and kitchen staples. The shop isn't very big, so we have to stack things high up to the ceiling. You have to be careful when you are pulling a bag down. We get our supplies from the main markets and then we sort through everything ourselves. It is a lot of manual labor. My cousins and I run the place now. We don't have a computer system to track everything; we just know what is in stock by looking at the shelves. The floor is made of old stone and the wooden counter has seen better days, but it works for us. Customers come from all the surrounding neighborhoods because they know we have what they need. We don't do any big promotions or anything. We just open the shop in the morning and wait for the regulars to show up. It is a noisy area with scooters and carts passing by constantly, but we are used to it. We just focus on weighing the goods and making sure people get what they paid for. There is no big mystery to it. We don't have a manager or a human resources department. If there is a problem, we just talk it out. The walls are covered in calendars from previous years because we never bother to take them down.
