Nagar Rice Mills

The mill is right there in Post Nagar. It’s been part of the landscape for a long time now. We handle the rice for the people living nearby and the farmers who bring their crop in from the surrounding areas. The building is mostly brick and it stays relatively cool inside even when it's hot outside, though the dust can get to you after a while. We don't have a big sign or any bright lights. Most people know where we are because they’ve been coming here for years. The sound of the husking machine is a steady rhythm that we’ve all grown used to. We spend a lot of time sweeping the floors and making sure the bags are stacked properly so they don't tip over. It’s a lot of physical work, and our backs usually ache by the time we shut the gates in the evening. We keep a ledger on a small table near the entrance to track everything that comes in and out. Sometimes a stray dog will wander in looking for a place to nap, and we don't mind much as long as it stays out of the way. It’s a quiet life for the most part, except for the noise of the machinery. We just focus on getting the work done and making sure the grain is processed well. There’s not much more to it than that. It is just how we do things here.
