Lyka Spices

Lyka Spices is situated right in front of the main entrance of Shakti Mandir on Jora Phatak Road. If you know the area, you know how loud it can get with all the bells ringing and the traffic moving toward the crossing. The smell of spices is always hanging in the air around our spot. It’s not something we planned, it just happens when you work with these things all day long. The shop isn't very large, but we make use of every inch of space we have. Most days are spent sorting through bags or weighing things out for people who come in. We get a lot of people passing by because of the temple being so close. Some days the road is blocked with festivals or just too many cars, and we just wait it out. The floor is made of old stone and it stays cool even when it’s blazing outside. We’ve got a couple of old wooden shelves that have been there since the beginning. They’re a bit wobbly now, but they hold the jars just fine. It’s a busy life here on Jora Phatak Road. We don’t have much time for sitting around. When the trains go by at the phatak, the whole place shakes a little bit, but we’re used to it by now. It’s just part of being here. We do our work and try to stay out of the way of the crowd.
