Khalsa Engineering

You can find Khalsa Engineering right at the Alipura Aklingpura Bypass Choraya, just off NH8. It’s a busy intersection, so there is always a layer of highway dust on everything in the shop. We set up here because it’s easy for the big trucks to pull in without having to navigate through the narrow city streets. The work we do is mostly heavy engineering and repairs for the transport industry. There is always someone coming in with a broken axle or a frame that needs reinforcing. The bypass is never really quiet; you can hear the gear shifts of the long-haul trucks even at night. We spend our days working with heavy iron and steel. It’s loud, dirty work, and by the end of the shift, everyone is pretty tired. We don’t spend money on fancy advertisements or shiny floors. The money goes into the tools and keeping the welding machines in good shape. My father taught me most of what I know about metalwork, and I’ve tried to pass that on to the younger guys who work here now. We see a lot of different people passing through on the highway, and sometimes we hear interesting stories from drivers who have come from halfway across the country. It’s a simple life, but it’s ours, and we’ve been doing it this way for a long time without needing much else.
