Friends Engineering Works

We’ve been here at B-9/A in the Pratap Nagar Industrial Estate for quite a while now. If you walk past our gate, you’ll usually hear the sound of machines running or someone hammering away at a piece of metal. It’s not a quiet place, but that’s just how an engineering workshop is. The floors have some oil stains and there is always a layer of iron dust on the windowsills. We started small, just a few of us working with basic tools, and we’ve stayed in this same spot as the area grew up around us. Pratap Nagar has changed a lot, but our shed stays pretty much the same. Most days involve looking at drawings, measuring parts, and making sure the lathes are behaving. We don’t have a fancy office with air conditioning or anything like that. There is a small desk in the corner with a pile of papers and a phone that rings more often than it should. Sometimes the tea guy comes by around four, and that’s when we take a quick break. We handle whatever mechanical jobs come through the door, from fixing small parts to putting together larger structures. It is honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down. Most of the guys here have been with us for years, so we all know how the machines sound when they are running right. It’s just us, some heavy metal, and a lot of grease.
