Being at 14 Loha Bazar in Chamanpura means we’re right in the middle of all the iron and steel trade. It’s a gritty part of town, always heavy with the smell of metal and the sound of hammers. Our store is just a simple place where we keep our tools. It isn't very large, so we have to be smart about how we stack things up. Usually, the morning starts with sweeping out the dust from the street and getting the shutters up. Chamanpura has been the home of this business for a while now. We see a lot of the same faces every day, mostly workers from the nearby workshops. It’s a practical kind of place. We don’t spend money on fancy displays or anything like that. We just make sure we have what people are looking for when they walk in the door. Sometimes the traffic in Loha Bazar gets so bad that nothing moves for an hour, but that’s just part of working here. We usually just have a cup of tea and wait for the jam to clear. It’s a living, and we’ve gotten used to the noise and the constant movement. Our shop is just one of many in the row, but we’ve been here long enough that people know the name. We just keep our heads down and do the work. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know best in this busy market.
