Out here in the Sidco Industrial Estate in Ambattur, things are always moving. Godrej & Boyce is a big name, but our daily reality at number one is all about the trucks and the heat. The gates open early, and by the time the sun is up, the yard is already full of noise. We spend our time managing the flow of goods and making sure the machines are running like they should. It’s a huge site, so you end up walking a lot between the different sections. The air smells like metal and oil, which is just part of being in an industrial area like this. We have a small office area where the fans never seem to stop spinning. The furniture is all metal, naturally, and the filing cabinets are full of maintenance logs and shift schedules. It isn't a quiet place to work. There's always a whistle blowing or the sound of something heavy being moved. We eat our lunch in the canteen or sometimes just at our stations if it’s a busy day. Being in Ambattur means we’re surrounded by other factories, so the whole neighborhood has this hardworking, gritty feel to it. We don't have fancy carpets or quiet hallways. It’s just concrete floors and people in uniforms getting the job done. By the time the evening shift starts, we’re tired but satisfied with what we got through.
