Mathan Knitters

Our workshop is located at No. 1 in the Pvg Nagar Extension area of Valayankadu. Being here in Tiruppur means we are surrounded by the textile trade on every side. We have been set up in this spot for a good number of years now. It is a busy neighborhood where the sound of knitting machines is pretty much the background music for everyone living and working here. Our space is dedicated to knitting, and we have our machines lined up and running most of the time. It’s a practical workspace, not a corporate office. There is usually some lint in the air and stacks of yarn piled up near the entrance waiting to be used. We don’t have any fancy reception area or a big sign out front. People who need us usually know exactly where to go. The staff here are locals and we all just get on with the tasks of the day. Sometimes the power goes out, which is common around here, and we just have to wait it out and talk for a bit. The roads in this part of town can be quite narrow, so getting the big rolls of fabric out can be a bit of a process. We don’t spend money on marketing or anything like that. We just focus on getting the knitting done and making sure the fabric is ready when it should be. It is honest, steady work that keeps us all going throughout the year.
