Our place is No. 2-A in the Annapoorna Layout over in Gandhi Nagar. It’s a quiet enough spot compared to the main roads around here. Despite the name, we aren't some flashy boutique with bright lights and loud music. It’s more of a workshop feel inside. We have sewing machines and cutting tables taking up most of the floor space. The light in here is okay during the morning, but we have to use the big overhead ones once the sun starts to go down. We’re usually busy with garments in various stages of being finished. There are threads all over the floor by the end of the day. We try to sweep up, but it’s a losing battle until the weekend comes. The staff here is mostly local people from around Gandhi Nagar. We’ve known each other for a long time, so we just get on with it without much fuss. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to wait around, which is just part of being in this area. We don't do much advertising; people mostly find us through word of mouth or because they know where the layout is. It’s practical work, making sure the stitching is straight and the sizes are right. We don't have much time for fancy talk or meetings. We just focus on the piles of clothes that need to be ready. It’s a decent place to work, and we stay busy enough to keep going.
