Saastha Creation is tucked away in Ettiveeram Palayam, near Perumanallur. It is a quiet area mostly, which is nice for working. We have a few sewing machines and some big cutting tables set up. Most of the day is spent listening to the hum of the motors. We work on different fabrics, cutting them to size and getting the stitching done. It’s a family-run thing. My aunt usually handles the finer details while I look after the machine maintenance. Sometimes we have a lot of scrap fabric on the floor at the end of the day. We try to sweep it up before we head home. The light coming through the windows in the afternoon is actually quite good for seeing the thread colors. We don't have a big sign outside, just the building address. People in the village know what we do. If someone needs a bulk order of shirts or basic wear, they come to see us. We have a small radio that plays local stations while we work. It keeps the energy up during the long shifts. We drink tea twice a day, usually sitting on the steps outside. The weather gets quite warm here so we keep the doors open for a breeze. It’s simple, honest work. We have a big metal cupboard where we keep all the thread spools. They are sorted by color, but they always end up mixed up by the end of the week. Our dog, Bruno, usually sleeps under the main cutting table. He doesn't mind the noise of the machines at all.
