Tea Estates India Limited

This is Selvam.A speaking, and I work as an Assistant Field Officer for Tea Estates India Limited. My main base of operation is over at Stanmore N.C in Valparai, which is located in the Coimbatore District of Tamil Nadu. Working in a place like Valparai is quite a bit different than working in one of those big, crowded cities. Everything here revolves around the hills and the vast tea gardens that surround us. I spend a lot of my time outdoors, walking the fields to check on the crops and making sure that things are growing as they should be. The office we have is really just a place to file our reports and take a short break from the sun or the rain. It is a simple setup because we do not really need anything more than the basics to get the job done. Being part of Tea Estates India Limited means being deeply connected to the land in this region. We do not hold big meetings in fancy boardrooms with glass walls and air conditioning. Most of our important discussions happen right out there in the tea fields or in a small room at Stanmore. It can be quite hard work at times, especially when the mountain weather is not on our side, but it is what we do every day. We don't use corporate language because it just doesn't fit the life we lead here. We care about the tea and the daily tasks.
