R. K. Zip Industries

We make zips and fasteners at No. 186- A Lakshmi Nagar Main Road. The factory is near the Kulalar Kalyana Mandapam. You can hear the machines clicking and humming from the street. We produce all kinds of zips for bags, clothes, and other stuff. It’s a repetitive job. We have these big rolls of tape and bags of metal teeth. The workers sit at their stations and keep an eye on the machines. Sometimes a machine jams and everything stops for a bit. We fix it and start again. The floor is always covered in tiny bits of plastic or metal. We sweep up every evening. It’s not a glamorous business, but everyone needs zips. We sell to tailors and small garment shops mostly. Lakshmi Nagar is a busy area, so there's always something going on outside. We've been here for quite some time. The building is old and could use some paint, but it's functional. We focus on getting the orders out on time. If a tailor needs a hundred zips by tomorrow, we try to make it happen. It's just me and a small team. We work hard and go home. That's our daily life. Sometimes we get orders for unusual colors or lengths, and we have to set the machines differently. It takes time and patience. We don't have a big marketing team. People just find us because they need what we make. That's enough for us to keep the lights on and keep working.
