Our company, Komadha Collective Farming Farmerproducer Company Limited, is based right on the Bangalore Main Road in the village of Velakkalnattham. We are located at No. 3/130 in the Natrampalli area of Vellore. It’s a spot where you see a lot of traffic passing by on the way to the city, but we are focused on the land right here. We deal with collective farming, which means we work with a lot of different families around the village to manage their crops and livestock. The name Komadha usually makes people think of cows, and that’s a big part of what we do—making sure the dairy and farming side of things runs smoothly. Our days are long and they usually start before the sun is even up. We have a small office that is mostly used for storing records and meeting with local farmers to talk about the latest harvest or the price of feed. It’s not a fancy life. We deal with the mud, the heat, and the occasional breakdown of a tractor. We just try to help each other out so no one has to struggle alone. Some of us have been in Velakkalnattham our whole lives and we just want to see the local farms do okay. It’s just us, working the land and trying to stay ahead of the weather and the bills. We don't have anything special to show off, just our work in the fields.
