Our office is over at No.129D3 Anna Salai in Kalakadu. We go by the name Kalandai Farmers Producer Company Limited. We are a group of farmers from around the Kalakadu area who decided it was time to work together. For a long time, everyone just did their own thing, but that doesn't work as well as it used to. Now, we try to coordinate our planting and see if we can get better prices at the market. It’s a lot of meetings, usually held late in the evening after everyone is done in the fields. We don't have a lot of fancy furniture or air conditioning in our meeting spot. It’s just a room with some chairs where we talk about the price of rice or whatever else we are growing. The land around here is good, but it takes a lot of effort to keep it productive. We deal with all sorts of problems, like the water pump breaking or the birds eating the seeds before they can sprout. It’s just one thing after another. We aren't professionals in suits; we're just people who know how to grow things. We’ve all got calluses on our hands and dirt under our fingernails. We don't make any big promises about being the best or anything like that. We just do the work and hope for a decent harvest. If you come by Anna Salai, you'll probably find one of us there.
