Sri Vijaya Fire & Safety Company

Our shop is located at 25/8 on South Street, right in the Melakondayam Pettai area. If you know Thiruvanaikoil, you know it gets quite busy around here during the festival days. Sri Vijaya Fire & Safety Company is basically just a few rooms filled with extinguishers and safety gear. We spend our mornings checking the pressure gauges and making sure the hoses aren't cracked. It is a bit of a dusty job, honestly. The sun hits the front of the building pretty hard in the afternoons, so we usually keep the shutters halfway down to stay cool. We have a small staff, mostly local guys who live within walking distance. We don't spend money on big ads or fancy signs. Most people find us because they saw our truck parked somewhere or heard about us from a neighbor. Sometimes the local shopkeepers come over to ask about their old cylinders. We have to explain the refilling process a lot, which takes time. The floor is made of old stone and it is always a bit cool under your feet. We keep a diary on the main table to write down who called and what they needed. It is not a high-tech setup, but it works for us. We drink a lot of water because of the heat. Every evening we lock up and walk down the street to the main temple area. It's a simple life running a safety business, just making sure everything is ready in case something goes wrong.
