In the village of Paaripatti, which is part of Suriyanoor in Karur, you’ll find our small office. The address is 1/191 Paaripatti, and it’s a quiet place most of the time. Sengathir Uzhavan Agri Producer Company Limited was started by people from this area who wanted to do something together instead of struggling individually. Karur can be a very dry and hot place, so farming here requires a lot of patience and local knowledge. We don't have any polished managers or a big headquarters. Our office is just a local spot where we can sit down and talk about the crops. Mostly it is about groundnuts, or whatever else the season allows us to grow. We don't use any fancy language to describe ourselves. We are just a group of farmers who know the land around Koppu and Suriyanoor. Some days we are out in the fields, and other days we are sitting in the office trying to figure out the accounts. It’s a bit disorganized sometimes, but we get things done eventually. The village life is slow, but the work never really stops. We’ve all grown up around here and we know the challenges of the soil and the weather. We just keep going, trying to make sure the families in our collective have what they need to keep their farms running through every season.
