This part of the country can get really hot, so we spend a lot of our time trying to stay out of the direct sun when we aren't working with the plants. The thottam or garden area is where we spend the bulk of our time. There is always something to water, or some soil to move around, or plants that need to be checked. Being on North Street, we get a bit of a breeze sometimes, which is nice. The address is a bit long, but once you find the street, we aren't too hard to spot. It’s a very local operation, and we don’t have any big machines or anything like that. It’s mostly manual labor and getting our hands dirty in the dirt. Ramanathapuram is a quiet place compared to the big cities, and Pudumadam has its own slow rhythm. We just follow that. People come by to see what we have growing or to buy things directly from us. We don't have a shop with a counter and a till, it’s more informal than that. We just show people around the garden and they take what they need. It’s a simple way to run things and it has worked for us so far.
