Team Cargo Services is over at the Visaka Trade Centre near Millerpuram Junction in Thoothukudi. Being in a port city, everything here is about moving things from one place to another. Our office on Palani Road West is usually full of paperwork and people shouting over the phone to find out where a truck is. It gets really hot here in Tamil Nadu, so we keep the fans going at full speed all day long. We deal with cargo, which is a lot more complicated than it sounds. There’s always some delay at the port or a paper that’s missing a stamp from the customs office. We aren't a huge logistics giant, just a team of people who know how to navigate the mess of shipping. Some of us have been doing this for twenty years now. We know most of the drivers by name and we know which ones will actually show up on time and which ones will be late. The office is a bit cluttered with old ledgers and maps of the shipping routes. It’s not a polished place. We have tea together in the afternoons and complain about the traffic near the junction. It’s just how things go. We make sure the boxes get on the ships or the trucks and hope nothing gets stuck for too long. It’s busy, sweaty work, but it keeps the port moving and keeps us busy. That is all there is to it.
