Jothy Bricks

Our brick yard is over in Alangudi Village. It’s a quiet part of Valangaiman Block. We’ve been making bricks here under the name Jothy Bricks for some time now. The post office in Mannargudi is the closest main spot for our mail and things. Life in Thiruvarur moves at its own pace and we like it that way. We spend most of our days out in the yard dealing with clay and fire. It’s dirty work and our hands are always stained with red dust, but that’s how it goes. My family helps out with the books and the sales. We don’t have a big corporate setup or a fancy website to show off. Most people just drop by the village when they need a load of bricks for a house or a garden wall. We have some local workers who have been with us for years and they know the process well. The weather affects us a lot, especially the heavy rains. When it pours, we have to stop the drying process and wait it out. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes. But when the sun is out, we work long hours to make up for it. You can find us easily if you know the way to Alangudi. We aren't doing anything groundbreaking, just making solid bricks like everyone else around here has done for ages. It keeps us fed and busy. If you see smoke from the kiln, you know we're working.
