Garg Bearing & Tractor House

We’ve been here in Paruthipara for quite a while now. The shop is full of metal parts and the smell of heavy grease is pretty much stuck in the walls at this point. Being near the BSNL building makes it easy for folks to find us when they are heading through Thiruvananthapuram. We spend most of our days looking at catalogs and digging through heavy boxes to find specific bearings for tractors. It is not the cleanest work in the world but someone has to do it so the machines keep running out in the fields. The shelves go all the way up to the ceiling and they are packed with everything from tiny washers to huge gears. Most people who come in are farmers or mechanics from the surrounding area. They usually have a broken part in their hand and a bit of a worried look on their face. We just look at what they have and try to find the match in the back. The sun hits the front of the building in the afternoon and it gets pretty warm inside despite the fans. We keep a few stools for people to sit on while we look for what they need. There is no air conditioning or fancy lounge here. It is just a regular shop with concrete floors and a lot of steel. We know the 695025 area well and have seen a lot of neighbors come and go over the years. We keep the doors open for ventilation even when the street is loud.
