About Devi Flour Mill – Food & Beverages in Thiruvananthapuram
Devi Flour Mill is tucked away on Krishna Vilasam Road. If you live around Cotton Hill, you probably know where we are. The machines make a lot of noise, so you can't really miss us. We spend most of our time covered in a bit of dust from the grains. It’s been like this for years. People bring their bags of rice or wheat, and we grind it up for them while they wait. Sometimes there’s a line, especially before the holidays, and the shop gets a bit crowded. We don't have fancy waiting chairs, just a bench by the door. The floor is always a bit white from the flour, no matter how much we sweep it. My hands are usually dry from handling the sacks, but that's the job. We know most of the people who come in by their first names. They tell us how they want their flour—some like it fine, some a bit coarse. We just do what they ask. The machinery is old but it works fine if you take care of it. We spend our evenings cleaning the grinders and getting ready for the next morning. It's steady work. Cotton Hill is a nice place to be, and we like being part of the neighborhood. We don’t do any advertising; people just find us because we’ve been here so long. It’s just a plain old flour mill, nothing more, just grinding away day after day for the folks nearby.
