Ajayan Flour & Oil Mill

You can find us at 457U, right on Anchumukkuvayal Road in Muttada. Ajayan Flour & Oil Mill is a bit of a landmark for the people living nearby. We do two main things here: grinding flour and pressing oil. The smell of the oil press is very strong, especially when we are working with coconuts or mustard seeds, and it lingers on your clothes long after you leave. The flour mill side of things adds a layer of white dust to everything else. It is a bit of a messy business, but that is the nature of the work. We are located on a road that stays pretty busy, so there is always something to look at out the front door. We have a small counter where we handle the cash and talk to the customers. Most of the time, the conversation is about the weather or how the local crops are doing. We don't use any high-tech systems; we just write things down in a book and keep track of who owes what. It is a very hands-on way of working. Sometimes the oil press gets clogged or the flour bags rip, and you just have to deal with the mess and move on. We have been in Muttada for a long time and we don't plan on going anywhere else. It is just a basic, local mill doing what it has always done.
