Billimalai Estate

We are located at Billimalai Estate, which is out by Katary Post in the Nilgiris district. Being on an estate means you are surrounded by green slopes and lots of trees, but it’s not all just looking at the scenery. There is a lot of physical labor involved in keeping a place like this running day after day. We have the main house and then the various sheds where the tea is processed and stored. The weather changes fast here; one minute it’s sunny and the next it’s pouring rain, so we always have to be ready to cover things up. Our daily routine starts early, before the sun is even fully up. We check the rows, look at the growth, and see what needs attention. The office is just a small room with an old wooden desk and a few filing cabinets where we keep track of the workers and the yields. It’s a lot of walking up and down hills, which keeps you tired but fit. We don't have many visitors except for the occasional delivery truck or a neighbor from another estate nearby. It’s a quiet, isolated kind of existence, far away from the noise and the pollution of the big cities. We just take care of the land and the crop, and try to make sure everything stays in order. It’s been this way for generations, and we don't expect it to change.
