Ashscreen Art

Up on the first floor of the Punjani Industrial Estate in Khopat, you’ll find us working away at Ashscreen Art. The stairs are a bit steep, but you get used to it after a while. Screen printing is what we do, and the smell of the ink is something that sticks with you even after you go home. It’s a bit noisy in this part of Thane West, what with all the other units around us, but we don't mind much. We’ve got a couple of big tables where we lay everything out. It’s mostly manual work, so our hands are usually stained with some color or the other. It’s not a fancy setup at all. We have some old fans that rattle a bit, and the lighting could probably be better, but it works for us. We spend a lot of time checking the screens for tiny mistakes. If the ink isn't right, the whole batch is ruined, and nobody wants that. Sometimes we stay late when there's a big pile of shirts or posters to finish. We don't really have a sales team or anyone like that. Usually, it's just one of us answering the door while trying not to smudge whatever we’re holding. People in the estate know us as the quiet guys who are always working. We just like making things look right on paper or cloth without any fuss.
