Sri Siva Naga Fly Ash Brick Industry

Our place is over at Pl.No.56/12 in Chebrolu Post. Working with fly ash is a different kind of job than the regular clay stuff. It gets everywhere, on our clothes and in our hair, so we’re always a bit grey by the end of the day. Vungutur Mandal is a quiet enough place but we keep things moving at the industry. In West Godavari District, the weather is usually hot, which helps with the drying process. We have a few machines that do most of the heavy pressing, but there’s still a lot of hand work involved. You have to watch the mix carefully or the bricks won't come out right. My father used to say that you can tell a good brick by the sound it makes when you tap it. We spend a lot of time just moving pallets from one side of the lot to the other. The trucks come in through the main gate and it can get a bit crowded if more than one shows up at once. We don't have a big fancy sign, just the work going on every day. It’s a steady life. Most of the guys here live nearby, so we all know each other well. We eat lunch under the big tree near the back fence. It’s the only spot with decent shade during the afternoon hours. We just take it one day at a time here.
