We are out on Hajira Mill Road, and the work here is mostly about managing the water. Every morning, long before the gates open, we have to check the pools and make sure the pumps are all working correctly. It’s a lot of outdoor maintenance, and we spend most of our time in the sun. During the hotter months, the place gets incredibly busy with families and groups of friends. It can get very loud with the sound of the water and people shouting on the slides. We have to walk around a lot to make sure everything is going smoothly and that nobody is doing anything too dangerous near the deep ends. The locker rooms take a lot of effort to keep clean because people are always dragging in water and dirt. We also have a small area where we sell snacks and bottled drinks, which gets pretty crowded in the afternoons. By the time we close the gates, we’re usually exhausted. We have to do a full sweep of the grounds to pick up any plastic bottles or food wrappers that got left behind. The filters in the pools need to be cleaned every single night so the water stays clear for the next day. It’s a lot of repetitive physical labor, but it keeps the park running. We’ve been part of this neighborhood on Hajira Mill Road for a long time.
