Ratan Cinema

We are located in the Salabatpura Industrial Area of Chandigarh. It’s an interesting spot for a cinema because of all the factories and workshops around us. During the day, it’s mostly the sound of machinery outside, but inside we have the movies playing. We’ve got the old-style seats and the projector room upstairs which stays pretty hot. The lobby is where we spend most of our time between shows, sweeping up popcorn and keeping the soda machine filled. It’s a large space, so it takes a lot of effort to keep it clean. People from the nearby industries often come in for the evening shows after their shifts are over. You can see them walking over in their work clothes. We don't have the big fancy screens like the malls, but the sound is loud and the picture is clear enough. The posters on the walls are usually for whatever is playing that week. Sometimes the power goes out in this area, and we have to wait for the generator to kick in. It’s just one of those things we deal with. We handle the ticket counter ourselves and sometimes we have to tell people to stop talking during the quiet parts of the film. It’s a steady job, keeping the reels turning and the doors open for whoever wants to watch a movie. We mostly just keep things moving.
