Shivam Stone Quarry

Working at Shivam Stone Quarry means being outside most of the time regardless of the weather. We are located at Block No -215 on Buetuada Road. It’s out near Bardoli, not too far from the Mari-Mata Temple. The work is hard and there is no way around that fact. We deal with a lot of heavy rocks and the machinery can be quite loud when it's running all day. My clothes are almost always covered in a layer of fine dust by the time I head back home to Surat. We don't have a fancy office with big chairs or air conditioning. It’s mostly just a small shack where we keep our tools and some of the paperwork. Being near the temple is a good landmark for anyone trying to find us for the first time. The sun in Gujarat can be really something else, so we drink a lot of water and try to find some shade when we can during our breaks. We move stone all day, loading it onto the back of trucks and sending it out to various sites. It’s physical work and it makes you tired in a way that you feel in your bones. We don't spend time writing letters or doing much on computers because that’s not what we’re about. We just make sure the quarry is running and the stone is getting moved out on schedule. It’s a rough environment but we know the land and the rocks.
