Shanti Freeze

The shop sits right on the Pune Solapur Road near Nanavat. It's usually pretty dusty because of the trucks going by all day. At Shanti Freeze, we mostly spend our time looking at broken cooling units and trying to figure out why they stopped working in this heat. L 7 is the spot where we keep all the spare parts and the old tools my dad used to use. It isn't a fancy place with a big sign or anything like that. People just know us because we’ve been here for a bit. Some mornings the shutters get stuck, and we have to give them a good kick to get things started. We have a couple of chairs for people to sit while we look at their stuff, but usually they just stand around and talk. The neighborhood has changed a lot, but the traffic stays the same. Solapur road is always loud. Sometimes we forget to answer the phone because the machines are making too much noise in the back. It gets pretty cramped when we have five or six big fridges lined up for repair. We just try to get through the work and get home before it gets too dark. There’s a small tea stall nearby where we go for breaks. That’s pretty much how it goes here every day. Just a lot of fixing things and trying to keep the place somewhat organized even if it doesn't look it.
