We are located on Asthan Road in Bardoli, which is a place that gets really hot during the afternoons. Our shop is where we keep all the big deep freezers. You can hear the hum of the compressors running all day and night to keep everything frozen. It’s a simple setup with a counter at the front and a few benches for people to sit down on. The floor is tiled so we can wash it down easily at the end of every shift. We spend a lot of time scooping and packing, so our hands are usually pretty cold. The smells of milk and different fruit flavors are always in the air. We see a lot of families coming in after dinner and school kids stopping by in the heat of the day. We don't have fancy decorations or loud music. It’s just a clean place to get something cold. My cousin helps me with the deliveries and we have a local boy who helps with the cleaning. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to rush to get the generator started so nothing melts. That’s probably the most stressful part of the job. Most of the time, it’s just about serving the people we’ve known for years. We stay open quite late because that’s when most people in Bardoli want to come out for a treat. It’s a busy life but it’s honest work and we like being part of the neighborhood.
