Raj Kumar Hair Art is located near the I.C. Gandhi School in the Avanti Society area. We are in the 395003 part of Surat. To be very specific, we are down below Santosh Hospital, right at Labhshwer Chawak. Being under the hospital means it stays a bit cooler in the summer, which is good. The chawak is always full of activity. You can hear the school bells and the traffic from the junction all day. It’s not a quiet place. Our shop is quite small and the ceiling isn't very high. We have a couple of old chairs that have been repaired a few times. We don't have any posters on the walls, just a calendar. Most people come here because they've been coming for years. We know most of the families in Avanti Society. We aren't experts in the latest styles you see on TV, but we do a clean job. Sometimes we sit outside on plastic stools when there are no customers. The stairs coming down to us are a bit narrow, so you have to be careful when you walk in. We use a lot of talcum powder and the smell of it hangs in the air. It’s a very normal, local barber shop. We don't have a website or any way to book ahead. You just show up and wait your turn like everyone else does around here.
