Lal Darwaja is always busy and noisy with people moving around constantly. I usually open up Priyanshu Povijan Stor Rate This early in the morning before the sun gets too high and the heat becomes a problem. The shutters on the front of the shop are heavy and sometimes they get stuck in the tracks if I don’t pull them just right. Inside the shop things are a bit cramped because we try to keep a lot of different things people might need for their kitchens. There is flour, pulses, and those small bars of soap that everyone likes. The fan on the ceiling makes a constant clicking noise but it helps move the air around when it gets stuffy. Customers come in and out all day, mostly just neighbors I have known for a long time. Sometimes they forget to bring their own bags and I have to go into the back to find a spare one for them. The floor gets very dusty because of all the street traffic right outside the door. I spend a lot of my time just rearranging the jars on the shelves so I can see what is running low and what needs to be ordered again. It is not a fancy place by any means. It is just a regular shop where the light isn't very bright in the back corner and the chair I sit on has a cushion that went flat years ago. (246 words)
