Nana Udyog

If you look for us in Katargam, we are right there in the Old G.I.D.C. at P/105-107. Being near the Indian Diamond Institute means there is always a lot of movement around the area, though our work is a bit different from the diamond trade. Nana Udyog has been sitting in this same spot for years, and the building shows its age a little, but the machines inside still run just fine. We handle a lot of manufacturing tasks that keep us busy from early morning until the sun goes down. The floor is usually covered in some kind of metal shavings or dust, depending on what project we are currently finishing up. It’s loud inside when everything is running at once, so we mostly communicate with hand signals or shouting over the noise. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy brochures for us. We just focus on the orders we have on the desk. Sometimes the power fluctuates, which is common in the older parts of the G.I.D.C., so we’ve learned to work around those little hiccups. The staff here is mostly local, and we take our lunch breaks together under the shade when it’s too hot inside the shed. It’s not a glamorous life, but it’s what we know. We’ve seen the area change a lot, but our little corner remains pretty much the same as it’s always been. We like the routine.
