Mokam Primary School

Hanuman Street is usually pretty packed, especially in the mornings when parents are dropping their kids off here at Mokam Primary School. We are right off Mulla Road and not too far from the main Rander Road area in Surat. It’s a busy corner of town, but we’ve gotten used to the noise over the years. Most of us working here live close by, so we know the families in the neighborhood well. The school itself isn't some fancy new building with glass walls. It’s just a solid place where kids come to learn their ABCs and numbers. We spend a lot of time just keeping things running. Sometimes the fans are a bit loud or the desks need a bit of fixing, but that’s just how it is. During recess, you can hear the kids all the way down the street. We try to keep the classrooms tidy, but with so many little ones running around with chalk and notebooks, it’s a constant job. Rander Road gets really backed up in the afternoons, so dismissal time is always a bit of a scramble with rickshaws and bicycles everywhere. We don’t have a massive field, so the kids play where they can. It’s just a regular local school trying to do right by the kids around Hanuman Street. Most of the teachers have been here for a long time, so we’ve seen brothers and sisters from the same families come through our doors year after year.
