Lalit Dairy

We've been here at Chaphekar Chowk on Varachha Road for a long time now. Bhori Ali B 40 is where you can find us every single morning. The milk trucks get here quite early, usually before the sun is even fully up. We spend those first few hours unloading the heavy cans and getting everything ready for the neighborhood folks who come in for their morning supplies. It’s a simple routine that hasn't changed much over the years. Some people want extra cream while others are just looking for a small packet of curd for their lunch. The floor stays a bit wet from the ice and the cleaning, but that’s just how a dairy is. We don't have fancy chairs or a waiting area because people are usually in a hurry to get home and start their cooking. Sometimes the fridge acts up and we have to call the repair guy from down the street, which is always a bit of a headache. My brother and I take turns behind the counter. We know which neighbor prefers which brand and who usually forgets their change. It gets crowded during festival times when everyone wants milk for sweets. We just keep moving the crates and making sure the milk stays cold. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from dawn until we close the shutters late in the evening. There isn't much to it besides that.
